Here are some highlighted case studies: |
|
- High Heat & RoHS Labels for Electronics Company - Manufacturer of consumer electronics operates a lead-free production environment. Standard white polyimide labels did not survive the accelerated temperatures of the new soldering process. Additionally, the print & apply system to handle high volume production requirements did not dispense the label correctly. Winco ID supplied a new labeling material for RoHS compliance which exceeded the temperature requirements and die cut it to fit the exact labeling position to be applied at high speed accurately.

- Military Compliance Labels Fast & Accurate - Suppliers to the US Government required to meet MIL-STD-130 found it difficult to understand the pages of mandated requirement specifications and do it in the time frame to make their shipment. What's more is the label had to be durable to last the expected life cycle of the product. WincoID understood the requirements for formatting, bar coding, and the structure of the label itself. Winco ID supplied preprinted UID labels within 24 hours and their shipment was approved by their DCMA just in time.
- UID Compliance Labels Printed On Demand - This US Naval Shipyard needed to uniquely identify units and components on military equipment brought in for repair or service. Printing the UID labels on demand, on the Hovercrafts with sea spray abound was not their only challenge. The labels were often going on greasy, rough or wet surfaces. Winco ID supplied the complete printing and verification system to meet compliance regulations of MIL-STD-130. This system was small enough to fit on the Hovercraft, offering printing on demand and at the point of service. With verification done immediately, there was no room for error. The labels were made of durable materials with special aggressive adhesives to handle the most demanding situations. This Naval Shipyard is now MIL-STD-130 compliant and ready to handle labeling requests of just about any kind.
- Durable Labels For Hot, Wet Environment - A dial and controls manufacturer needed labels to withstand the high-pressure, hot-water and extreme temperatures of their production environment. The 2.5-inch labels were being hand-applied with Super Glue. Winco ID manufactured a uniquely shaped and sized label using a cutting die to fit the dials and conform to the tolerances of their thermal transfer printers. The special adhesive would self-bond, eliminating the need for Super Glue. The label material was durable enough to withstand the moisture, humidity, high-pressure spray, was tear resistant and had a thermal top coating to create a crisp image resistant to abrasion when printed on demand.

- Durable Labels for Freezer Applications - This seafood distributor received complaints from customers that bar code labels were falling off the frozen fish boxes. They also noticed some of the bar codes would not scan. Without being able to scan the bar code, positive identification of the type of fish, lot numbers and expiration dates were lost. Winco ID provided a tough adhesive label rated to withstand the cold temperatures, moisture when melted and a ribbon for printing clean, crisp bar codes that would withstand the abrasion of packages rubbing together in shipment. Labels don't come off and the printing remains intact for scanning.
- On Site Service Improves Operations at Distribution Center - A well-known leading designer, manufacturer and wholesaler of scented candles in the US relied heavily on bar code printing systems to manage daily business. It wasn't long before they discovered the very essence of their business, wax, was causing some unexpected problems with their thermal transfer printers. Production halted to fix ribbon wrinkling, tracking, and label jams on the media path. In addition, the crisp printing of text, which is crucial for product and shipping labels, deteriorated over time. Winco ID's Service Team performed a detailed evaluation, repair and formulated a service plan to eliminated downtime and produce 100% readable barcodes for product labeling and shipping compliance. This plan included coverage for their bar code scanners to keep their barcode operations running smoothly and efficiently.

- Inventory Control Using RFID - A cable wire manufacture makes many different wires to customers' specifications. Even to a trained eye, it's difficult to distinguish the different wires by visually looking at them. As a result, a manual tracking system was subject to human error and was time consuming.
To ensure proper product shipments, the 100-year-old firm teamed with Winco ID to replace their current system with a highly accurate inventory tracking system using wireless data collection and bar code tracking equipment. The successful project design and installation of this leading-edge RFID solution cuts inventory-counting hours in half.
- General Motors Compliance - A well-known manufacturer of audio systems and speakers for the automotive industry had to comply with the GM bar code specifications or their shipments would be refused and be penalized for noncompliance.
Winco ID, along with the customer's engineers, determined that Datamax Label Printers positioned in multiple stations within the factory shipping area would handle the heavy volume of use that was required. The printer would interface with the mainframe computer system, utilizing custom software, This application also included the need for an inexpensive direct thermal tag that would be attached to the customer's products and is infrared scanned upon receipt by GM. Winco ID's ability to handle software, printers, labels, tags, as well as service and technical support enabled the customer to promptly comply with GM's requirements and avoid any rejected shipments or penalties.
